    La última vez que en Forum de Comercio Internacional abordamos la situación de la mujer y el comercio fue en 2008. Se publicó en momentos en que el foco de interés pasaba del ‘empoderamiento de la mujer’ al ‘empoderamiento económico de la mujer’, lo que en cierta medida obedeció al marcado aumento de datos desglosados por sexo que revelaron que la mujer propulsa el crecimiento más que la China, la India o la Internet, según The Economist. Ese creciente interés por ayudar a más mujeres para que tuvieran éxito en el comercio, en particular aquellas de países en desarrollo, reveló restricciones comerciales por consideraciones de género. La respuesta del ITC fue iniciar el Programa Mujeres y Comercio en 2010.
